Former King Mojo Artist Paul Norton Returns for Community Mural Painting Session
Former King Mojo artist Paul Norton will return to help create a major new community mural celebrating Sheffield’s legendary music venue at a special live painting event on Thursday, July 2nd.
The free event, taking place at Weston Park Museum between 10am and 3pm, will see Paul join artist Angela Hardwick and members of the public in bringing the mural to life.
Over recent weeks, the design has been shaped by memories and ideas gathered from former club-goers through workshops, events, emails, media coverage and online consultation. Now, the public has the opportunity to become part of the artwork itself.
Paul’s distinctive artwork helped define the visual identity of King Mojo during the club’s heyday and visitors will have the chance to hear his memories of the venue, reconnect with old friends and add their own brushstrokes to the mural.
The event forms part of Mojo Rising – Celebrating 60 Years of Music and Community, supported by a £114,300 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

How To Get Involved
The King Mojo project is built around people – the memories, experiences and shared history connected to one of Sheffield’s most influential 1960s music venues. As the project develops, there will be opportunities for individuals to get involved by supporting research, events and community activity through volunteering.
Volunteer with the project
Volunteers will play an important role in helping the project document, preserve and share the story of King Mojo. Opportunities will include supporting the collection of first-hand memories, assisting with archive material, helping at events and exhibitions, or contributing to research and community engagement activity.
No specialist knowledge or previous experience is required. Full training will be provided for all volunteer roles, along with clear guidance and ongoing support. Roles are designed to be inclusive and accessible, and time commitments will be discussed in advance to ensure volunteering fits comfortably around other commitments.
